MyUtilities Privacy Policy
MyUtilities is an offline-first Android app for managing property, lease, utility, meter, invoice, reminder, and related accounting records on a device. It does not require a MyUtilities account and does not use a developer-operated cloud-sync service for those records. Pro is not currently available to purchase; features identified as Pro in the app or store listing are planned or locked until a future launch.
Information processed on your device
Depending on the features you use, the app may process:
- properties, addresses, tenants, contacts, leases, rent, deposits, notes, reminders, meter readings, invoices, and manual transaction records that you enter;
- app preferences and device-local security settings, including optional PIN, pattern, or biometric protection;
- files that you explicitly import, export, restore, or back up; and
- limited Google Play purchase or entitlement information if paid features become available.
Operational app records are stored locally using Android storage. They are excluded from the app's Android backup and device-transfer rules. The app does not claim that its local database has a separate custom encryption layer; protection primarily relies on Android app sandboxing, your device security, and any app lock you enable. Exported files remain wherever you choose to save them and are under your control.
On-device OCR and limited ML Kit telemetry
When you choose OCR-assisted meter reading, MyUtilities uses Google ML Kit Text Recognition. The camera images and text supplied to OCR, and the recognized text returned by OCR, are processed on your device and are not sent to Google. MyUtilities does not send those OCR inputs or outputs to the developer's backend.
The production app uses the Google Play services (thin) ML Kit library. According to Google's ML Kit Android data disclosure, ML Kit collects limited telemetry: device and application information; a device identifier and per-installation identifiers; performance metrics such as latency; API configuration such as image format and resolution; feature input and output sizes; feature version; event types such as initialization, model download, detection, and resource release; and related error codes. Google states that this telemetry is used for diagnostics and usage analytics, encrypted in transit using HTTPS, and not shared with third parties.
Optional Pro interest request
If you choose to register interest in Pro, MyUtilities sends only a pseudonymous installation ID, app version and version code, locale, optional contact details, and an optional comment. The service adds creation and update timestamps. It does not receive your properties, addresses, tenants, leases, readings, invoices, transactions, backups, PIN, pattern, or biometric data.
Cloudflare provides the Worker and key-value storage used for this request. Cloudflare transiently processes the source IP address to apply abuse rate limits; MyUtilities does not add the IP address to the stored Pro interest record. The public Pro counter contains only an aggregate number and cannot be used to retrieve an individual request.
How information is used
Information is processed only as needed to:
- provide the record-keeping, calculation, reminder, security, import, export, and backup features you choose;
- verify or restore a Google Play entitlement if paid features become available;
- measure interest in Pro and use optional comments for launch planning; and
- send one Pro launch notice if you voluntarily provide contact details.
MyUtilities does not sell personal data and does not include a general-purpose analytics or crash-reporting SDK in the production app. Google ML Kit's limited diagnostics and usage telemetry for the optional OCR feature is the exception described above.
Network access and service providers
Core record-keeping is designed to work offline. Network access is used for Google Play Billing or required platform services; ML Kit model delivery, maintenance, and the limited OCR telemetry described above; and when you explicitly submit or delete a Pro interest request. Google may process information required to operate Google Play and ML Kit under its own terms. Cloudflare processes the limited Pro interest information described above as the infrastructure provider.
Permissions
- Camera: used only when you choose OCR-assisted meter reading input. Camera images and recognized text remain on your device.
- Notifications: used only for reminders or backup-related notices you allow.
- Biometrics: used only when you enable device-local app protection.
- Internet and network state: used for Google Play services and optional Pro interest operations.
Retention and deletion
Data entered into the app remains on your device until you delete it, clear the app's storage, uninstall the app, or remove files that you created. MyUtilities does not keep a server-side copy of your operational records.
A Pro interest request is retained until Pro launches. Optional contact details are used for one launch notice and optional comments only for launch planning. The complete per-request record is deleted within 30 days after that notice. A non-personal aggregate count may remain. You may delete your request at any time from the installation that sent it. If that installation is unavailable, email the developer using the same contact detail submitted with the request, if any, so a matching request can be identified and deleted.
Children
MyUtilities is a property and utility management app and is not directed to children under 13.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the effective date at the top of this page will be updated.
